<br />I recently found this new area by chance when my wife Claire was doing some research on her family tree at the cemetary in Levenwick. I took a stroll along the headland and found an overhanging wall with a shallow cave at one end. It was a little grubby with some signs of seepage but looked like there'd be a good number of problems. I didn't have much time to look around so I promised myself a return visit before too long.
<br />
<br />I went back last week for a short session to try one or two of the problems and arranged to meet up with a boulderer from Italy who was in the islands on holiday. The place didn't disappoint! We climbed the lower tier which comprises of a short slab section then goes into a long, low roof section, the entire wall is about 20m long. We climbed 5 problems altogether up to V7 on excellent compact sandstone and with many more hard problems to go at I'm looking forward to the next visit.

The tiny crimps and smears, the individual moves and sequences that originally took a bit of time to work out, it all floods back.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSclvqcNekptuIsow3-J14wI-z4nBZ5Kd6QHRLHwnArwl3Qd7xjAUvtQ-F_XT3zOtvKMfd54R1IozwVE5tX9iiSRlM8FjrPQZf74gku5Nfa48qohQMxFTDnwN3SK0qkxLHWoxSq3NyQrm1/s1600/IMG_9642.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 182px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSclvqcNekptuIsow3-J14wI-z4nBZ5Kd6QHRLHwnArwl3Qd7xjAUvtQ-F_XT3zOtvKMfd54R1IozwVE5tX9iiSRlM8FjrPQZf74gku5Nfa48qohQMxFTDnwN3SK0qkxLHWoxSq3NyQrm1/s320/IMG_9642.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5569120335580338210" border="0" /></a> Climbing Pobie Sukka V3 (ss) with very cold fingers!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Xu311ksmaoP19z2ldPIWlZ3aRQPbOmfZQhnvwCSJflTy-Z_7RARPNh5Qj5Ugc9gx2DSZcUjaY8VPIYDpCpFUlfXs5KkdQ0mLaTLHbosnpwp_QHWSefY4fvtBfPhijkdjKm2NMBeIRAjX/s1600/IMG_9646.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 206px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Xu311ksmaoP19z2ldPIWlZ3aRQPbOmfZQhnvwCSJflTy-Z_7RARPNh5Qj5Ugc9gx2DSZcUjaY8VPIYDpCpFUlfXs5KkdQ0mLaTLHbosnpwp_QHWSefY4fvtBfPhijkdjKm2NMBeIRAjX/s320/IMG_9646.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5569120342073433506" border="0" /></a>The Shun V2, a great little problem in a great location.<br /><br />There are around a dozen problems here, enough to keep you occupied for an hour or two and a great place to just sit and have a cup of tea! You can't win em' all! <br />Things are settling down now so the coming year looks an exciting one.<br /><br />2010 wasn't a total loss though, with a trip away to the peaks in May and a number of friends visiting, I managed to scrape the odd session.<br /><br />Here's a couple of photos of some of our 2010 sessions, there were at least three dry days! Roll on 2011.<br /><br />A Happy new year to you all.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP2C3RAEtRHp6Pdj8tJXxW9H10ZZKKasPR3Gx_rYGxfESc5UHALPy5FazaixwFqbmYWumfdbhbLaKshjPDjghMND22z_XObbrHcN6UGd5VgK1-N-_qulW2YJBEz_yWw14sBhfNRq91haht/s1600/pan.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP2C3RAEtRHp6Pdj8tJXxW9H10ZZKKasPR3Gx_rYGxfESc5UHALPy5FazaixwFqbmYWumfdbhbLaKshjPDjghMND22z_XObbrHcN6UGd5VgK1-N-_qulW2YJBEz_yWw14sBhfNRq91haht/s320/pan.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5555065232665079682" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFBKOG5ZyRSVL-HvVxvG3eZCmI9zkBiVL3vffTuKBndb1S7J6044ym0ZnZoA7pE5m-3RnO0pjAZjA781djHXVEBzPDmjAp-ic1vX2uAZ8t7LDpfH8ZjCXo1j-xTpcum_lH4DWF_ZomJlrO/s1600/IMG_8788.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFBKOG5ZyRSVL-HvVxvG3eZCmI9zkBiVL3vffTuKBndb1S7J6044ym0ZnZoA7pE5m-3RnO0pjAZjA781djHXVEBzPDmjAp-ic1vX2uAZ8t7LDpfH8ZjCXo1j-xTpcum_lH4DWF_ZomJlrO/s320/IMG_8788.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5555065227578269842" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUXATXq7f_kmwUTgA9NRWGI4spF2chKwq2cjQXbBSl0_hckHIipfygsMun7nN9KBwNKmwQecacpiRnc-cQpVYWi3xxhPwrQ7yzfnbs7mGVVGGDQeKlM90SeuiIV5sZrzVXR1eoa9cBpIGl/s1600/IMG_4376.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUXATXq7f_kmwUTgA9NRWGI4spF2chKwq2cjQXbBSl0_hckHIipfygsMun7nN9KBwNKmwQecacpiRnc-cQpVYWi3xxhPwrQ7yzfnbs7mGVVGGDQeKlM90SeuiIV5sZrzVXR1eoa9cBpIGl/s320/IMG_4376.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5555064074154089970" /></a>Paul Whitworthhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17662181222616678459noreply@blogger.com0
